Rockstar working on DLC for PS3 version?

Ok so we all know that the downloadable content is on the Xbox 360 but no one says it’s staying there. In a recent interview with my local radio station with “Cousin Ed & Dima” from Rockstar, they suggest the content is definitely just a timed deal.

I don’t know entirely what I can talk about, but it’s on Xbox. Microsoft came to us and said ‘hey here is some money if you can bring the content to us FIRST

So what does the above statement mean? It basically means that Microsoft went to Rockstar with $50 million and said bring it to us first before PS3 get it.

WipEout HD Patch 2.10 coming soon

Mikel Arrien, Partner Marketing Executive, SCEE has written on the European Playstation Blog and has mentioned about an upcoming patch for Wipeout that will take the game to version 2.10.

The 2.10 Update makes some small improvements to front-end functionality and addresses some minor issues with the audio. In addition, small issues that could affect gameplay or scores in the Eliminator and Detonator game modes have also been corrected.

Changes have also been made so that any adverts shown during loading screens will not adversely affect the loading times of the title. As many of you know, the functionality to display adverts during loading screens was first introduced in the 2.0 Update and originally didn’t function as intended, leading to extended loading times in some areas of the game.

This issue has now been resolved and we understand that a new advertising campaign in Wipeout HD is expected to launch across a number of European territories soon (no word yet on what is happening in North America). In the meantime, a range of PlayStation-specific ads will be making an appearance in the coming days.

Uncharted 2 Crushing Mode Guide

Are you going for the platinum trophy but having difficulties going through the game on the crushing difficulty setting? Well the nice people over at I-Heart-Zombie have put together a tips and strategy guide for beating the game on this very settings.

Crushing Mode can be rather difficult and frustrating. Not only does it take more bullets to kill an enemy, it takes less to kill you.

So here we go! Remember, this isn’t a step-by-step walkthrough for the entire game. I won’t go through with the platforming or puzzles, but strictly involve the main gunfights you’ll be encountering.

For more information regarding Uncharted 2, head over to PS3week.

Naughty Dog to outdo Uncharted 2

It has been revealed that Naughty Dog plan to outdo scenes in Uncharted 2. Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckman commented on how they were going to top Uncharted 2’s train sequence:

We’re Naughty Dog right? When we approach a new project, we can’t just make it slightly better, because people’s memory of the stuff is always better than what it actually was so it has to be so much better, so that it really stands out.

So whatever we do next, it can’t just be another train with just better combat or just a slightly better scripted sequence, it’s got to be so much more over the top and it really has to take it to the next level.

I would think that what he was pitching would top the train quite a bit, but that’s all we can say,” Amy Hennig added.

Do you think this could be for Uncharted 3 or another game like Jak and Daxter?

R-Type 3D coming to PS3

In the latest issue of the Japanese magazine, Famitsu reveals R-Type 3D for the Playstation 3. R-Type is a side scrolling shoot-em up and the new version will be exclusive to the PS3.

It is unknown whether the “3D” in title means that the game will take place in a 3D plane or whether it would be in a 2D plane with 3D graphics (a la R-Type Delta).

New games from Insomniac are coming

Insomniac Games has revealed that new IP’s are on the way and stated that Resistance wasn’t their last IP. Speaking in a candid interview with GamerZines last week, Insomniac Games’ Senior Community Manager James Stevenson said:

We don’t really want to talk about anything outside of A Crack In Time, but what I will say in general is that, if you think that Resistance is going to be the last new IP from Insomniac obviously that would be a silly thought.

At some point in the future there will be new IPs, but when, where, why, how, you know, who knows?

If you look at Resistance 2, our co-op numbers were higher than our competitive numbers. It’s definitely a growing sector of the industry and regardless of what games Insomniac make in the future – because we will make many more games and I’m not going to talk about what they’ll be – I think co-op is something that we will recognise the growing importance of.

The question is, will they be exlcusive to PS3?

Insomniac says PS3 won’t be maxed out until 2/3 years

James Stevenson, senior community manager of  Insomniac has said that it could take developers 2 or 3 years to reach the capabilities of the Playstation 3.

There’s always ways we can become more efficient. The PlayStation platforms are built with a very high ceiling and I think that’s part of the success Sony has had in creating these platforms with really long life spans,

The first couple of years are all about developers getting games up and working. You see what Naughty Dog has had the chance to do in the past two years. You’ve seen what we’ve been able to do in that time. This is where it gets exciting.

The PS3 still feels like a young system and I feel like it’s finally hitting its prime. You’ve got the Slim, it’s at a good price point now and sales are really picking up.

I still think you’re not going to see the PS3 really maxed out for another two to three years. We’re using all of the PS3 right now, but you can always be more efficient in the way you use it.

I guess we will all have to wait to see if this statement is true.

PES 2010 chooses PS3

Pro Evolution 2010 has choosen the Playstation 3 to be it’s platform choice in terms of sales. Konami’s latest football game was released last Friday and the Playstation 3 accounted for 66% of sales while the Xbox 360 accounted for just 32%. Lastly, the PC version only claimed 2%.

Is Forza 3 the reason for this? Or have 360 owners converted to Fifa 10?

Netflix Coming to PS3

For US Subscribers of Netflix, the application will finally make its way to the PlayStation 3 system next month. With the timed exclusive deal with Microsoft over, last week Netflix hinted at expanding there services further. Check the press release  below.

COMING SOON: NETFLIX MEMBERS CAN INSTANTLY WATCH MOVIES AND TV EPISODES STREAMED TO TVs VIA THE PLAYSTATION®3 COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM

With Movies Streamed Instantly from Netflix, Blu-ray/DVD Playback and Downloadable Videos via the PlayStation®Network, the PlayStation 3 System Offers The Industry’s Most Comprehensive Options for Watching Movies and TV Shows

FOSTER CITY and LOS GATOS, Calif., October 26, 2009 – Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) and Netflix, Inc. [Nasdaq: NFLX] today announced that they are joining forces to make thousands of movies and TV episodes from Netflix available to be streamed instantly to TVs via the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system. Netflix expects to begin streaming via the PS3 system next month at no additional cost to Netflix members in the United States who have a PS3 system.

Today’s announcement pairs two of the most popular and fastest growing home entertainment brands in the U.S. The PS3 system’s installed base has reached close to 9 million units in the United States, and Netflix recently reported 11.1 million U.S. subscribers as of September 30.

The partnership further solidifies the PS3 system as the most complete home entertainment hub on the market today, enabling consumers to play high-definition games, watch Blu-ray movies, listen to music, view photos, browse the Internet, and download content from PlayStation®Network − from exclusive games to blockbuster movies and popular TV shows. PS3 system owners will soon enjoy an unparalleled experience watching their favorite movies and TV shows streamed instantly from Netflix, downloading from the PlayStation Network or watching Blu-ray/DVD media. The Netflix offering expands on the entertainment experience delivered to PS3 system owners via PlayStation Network.

For only $8.99 a month, Netflix members can instantly watch unlimited movies and TV episodes streamed to their TVs and computers via Netflix ready devices such as the PS3 system and can receive unlimited DVDs delivered quickly to their homes.

“The PlayStation 3 system has always been about more than just gaming, and it will soon be the only platform in the industry to offer consumers such a variety of convenient options for enjoying movies and TV shows,” said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. “Whether you want to watch content on Blu-ray disc and DVD, download it from the PlayStation Network’s video delivery service, or stream videos instantly from Netflix, the PS3 system is the only solution that offers it all.”

“As instantly watching movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix becomes an increasingly popular way to enjoy the Netflix service, our goal is to rapidly expand the devices that stream to our members,” said Netflix CEO and co-founder Reed Hastings. “As a leading game console and Blu-ray disc player, bringing Netflix to the PS3 system is a real win for both Netflix members and PS3 system owners.”

Initially, watching movies instantly streamed from Netflix via the PS3 system will be enabled by a free, instant streaming Blu-ray disc that is being made available to all Netflix members. The free instant streaming disc leverages Blu-ray’s BD-Live™ technology to access the Internet and activate the Netflix user interface on the PS3 system, which must be online via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

Netflix members simply slide the disc into their PS3 systems to reveal movies and TV episodes that can be watched instantly. These titles are conveniently organized into a variety of categories based on members’ personal preferences, popular genres, new arrivals and members’ individual instant Queues. Members can use the Netflix Web site or navigate directly on their PS3 systems to add movies and TV shows to their Queues. With the PS3 system’s Wireless Controller, members can choose a movie to watch from their instant Queues or just play directly from any of the lists. They also have the ability to read synopses and rate movies. In addition, they have the option of fast-forwarding and rewinding the video stream via the Wireless Controller.

Netflix members and PS3 system owners can now reserve a free instant streaming disc for PS3 systems by going to www.netflix.com/ps3. Upon availability, the instant streaming disc will be delivered for free by first-class mail, generally one business day after members request it.

Tekken 6 has 4GB optional install

Tekken 6 for the Playstation 3 will have an optional 4GB install, which is probably one of the biggest installs for the system, advantages? Reduced load times.

Without installing, a match can take around 15 seconds to load, so it’s highly recommended you install.

New controller underway?

unidentified sce controller 1

We know SCE is working the motion controller, but this is a different type of controller. Siliconera found a new unidentified Sony controller patent.

A design patent application for this unannounced device was filed in the US by Sony Computer Entertainment. The document is light on details, but calls the device a “hand held game controller”.

The controller is being developed in the USA since all of the inventors are from southern California. More specifically, one of them works at Sony’s Electronics Design center in Los Angeles.

Could this be linked to the motion controller to make gaming easier, or is this a controller on it own? We’d like to hear it.
