PSN remains free subscription is for premium content and services

We had not even send out email out for a while or VG247 already has an answer back.

It seems we don’t have to worry about ‘doing a Xbox Live’. Through SCEE, Kaz Hirai let the following know

SCE will further increase sales by offering users new entertainment through the combination of hardware, software, peripheral and PlayStation Network. Especially in the online area, we are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model, offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services

So under premium we can say Qore? MMO based subscriptions? Well as long as standard online play is free we don’t mind.

Xbox 360 gamers defecting to PlayStation 3?

That is what according to OTX’s GamePlan Insights, who did a survey and found out that sequel title buyers are switching console. 15 percent of those who plan to buy the PS3 version of Assassin’s Creed 2 own the Xbox 360 version of the original, while only 7 percent of those who plan to buy the Xbox 360 version own the original game on PS3.

Analyst Nick Williams of OTX, said that the data on franchise lineage highlights an interesting trend between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin’s Creed 2. The data highlights a shift, at least among fans of Assassin’s Creed, are in favour of the PS3 might be a sizeable portion. And these are players who plan a console defection for the second instalment.

New controller underway?

unidentified sce controller 1

We know SCE is working the motion controller, but this is a different type of controller. Siliconera found a new unidentified Sony controller patent.

A design patent application for this unannounced device was filed in the US by Sony Computer Entertainment. The document is light on details, but calls the device a “hand held game controller”.

The controller is being developed in the USA since all of the inventors are from southern California. More specifically, one of them works at Sony’s Electronics Design center in Los Angeles.

Could this be linked to the motion controller to make gaming easier, or is this a controller on it own? We’d like to hear it.

Cross game chat confirmed for next firmware

In a post that got deleted not soon after it was posted by a Naughty Dog dev going by the PSN name ReklissAbandon we were able to strenghten the rumour that cross game chat will be in the next firmware.
Here is post before it got deleted

I think they wanted people to have fun and ejoy the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies positions.

The last bit does worry me as online playing causes more and more gamers to find a way to cheat or how they would call it, use all means necessary to win. We’ll see how that will go

Sony 3D support for ALL PS3 games not sure yet

Sony said maybe all games will be in 3D. There no date on when the 3d coming out but i may be by next year in a FW update and sony does not know if they could make games in 3D but they are trying . Sony said this about all games in 3D:

For now, they’re “conducting a technological investigation” to see if they can even pull off that amazing stunt. Imagine, ALL PS3 games in 3-D. In fact, Sony said, “there is no plan for the market launch of this at this time.”

PlayStation Network Cards FAQ for UK

psn cards uk 2
With news reaching our shores on August 18th, that Europe will finally get PSN cards (well at least it will start in the UK).  You will find a FAQ on the European PlayStation site , how the cards will work and some screenshots of the 20 and 50 pound cards. Available from September 2009, we look forward to when the European mainland can enjoy these cards, to help Sony with a boost in revenue.

What are PlayStation Network Cards?

PSN Cards are a way of adding funds to your PlayStation Network wallet, allowing you to purchase games and game content from PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and the SingStore, without the need of a credit card.

Where do I get them?

You can buy them from most shops that stock PlayStation games and systems.

How much do they cost?

PlayStation Network Cards are currently available in £20 and £50 denominations.

How do I redeem them?

After purchasing a card, follow these three simple steps:

  1. Sign in to PlayStation Network on your PS3, your PSP or a PC using Media Go
  2. Head to PlayStation Store and select the Redeems Codes icon at the top of the page
  3. Enter the 12-digit code printed on the card and the funds will be added to your wallet instantly

Are there separate cards for PlayStation 3 and PSP?

No, your PlayStation Network account is the same for both PS3 and PSP. Therefore, you’re free to spend your points on content for either system, or a combination of the two.

Do the cards have an expiry date?

You must redeem the cards within 12 months of purchase. Once redeemed, funds will remain in your PlayStation Network wallet until spent.

EvE Online goes console…. sort of

CCP, developers of probably the biggest MMO game currently on the market have announced that they are planning to bring a game to the console market. The game will be named DUST 514 and is a hybrid between a MMO and a FPS.

DUST514secondscreenshot

The most interesting thing is that CCP is planning to create an interplay between EvE Online and DUST 514. The two games will open the EVE universe to console gamers and gives them a chance to become part of one of the most massive cooperative play.

Since opening our Shanghai studio, we have invested in building a team that wants to push the envelope in gaming and be pioneers in the industry. Having led the design and development efforts of the project from start to finish, our studio is honored to call DUST 514 our first title release

The game which is currently in it’s third year of production, is the primary development focus of CCP’s Shanghai studio. The team includes veteran designers of EVE Online and experienced talent from various sectors of the video game industry.

The primary gameplay of DUST 514 features brutal ground combat that takes place on the surface of planets from EVE, delivering the visceral, adrenaline-fueled experience of futuristic firefights. Developed for the current generation of consoles, DUST 514 combines equal parts battlefield reflexes and strategic planning, giving commanders and ground infantry real-time configurable weapons and modular vehicles to manage dynamic battlefield conditions.

Our success with EVE Online has afforded us the highest caliber global design and production talent in gaming. With a team of the best minds in the industry, we conceived an ambitious new take on virtual world development with DUST 514

Expect further details on the game during the CCP Fanfest from October 1st till the 3rd in Iceland.

No mandatory install for Uncharted 2

Though first there was proof of the game requiring a 1,7 GB install, Naughty Dog president Christophe Balestra has tweeted that that simply isn’t the case. His tweet read

Uncharted 2 does not require any install

Though this doesn’t matter for people who installed the WD 500 GB harddrive *cough*me*cough* it’s great news for people who who’s drive is getting fuller rand fuller with PSN only games like Fat Princess.

A change of face

Opening ribbon

We had hoped to have brought you the new look with our anniversary but stuff happened and we decided to postpone it. As of now you will be able to enjoy your stories with a new theme for Talk PlayStation.

The front page won’t show so many stories as before, and browsing page numbers has also disappeared. So to get the latest news, you’ll need to get connected to us through RSS, twitter or visit the site even more regular to stay on top of the news.

There is a special video box that will show you the latest video we’ve uploaded. Still want to see a different video, simply visit the video category to see which other video’s we’ve found and posted for you or search for it.

In the past few months we’ve noticed a change in how readers look at the/our stories and we’ll be working on this to make it even more approachable and more importantly without the copy and past of a press release.

We also have plans to get a proper community set up. Most of these plans have already been out for a while but we never gave them any publicity on the site. So watch out for these announcement in the near future.

We hope you enjoy the new look and please don’t hesitate to contact use to give us feedback or if you feel you can contribute in any other way to the site.

Sony Fixes Our Problems But We Still Complain

Before Firmware 2.40 hit our PlayStation 3’s many of us complained about the features the PlayStation 3 needed. Such features as in-game music, trophies and in game XMB. We got two of these features, but in game music is a really much needed feature for the PlayStation 3. Soon after that we were given 2.41, which fixed the problems the update people were getting and a new icon for the platinum trophy. And then 2.42 and so on and so forth. But people still complained and demanded more.

Then 2.50 was released and one of the main features it had was the adobe 9 update to the PlayStation 3’s Internet browser (click here to make the most of the browser). And now I see people on forums writing that they want adobe 10 flash player for the PlayStation 3. Well my PlayStation 3 is perfectly fine the way it is, I just play games on it and that’s all I will do with it. I have my own PlayStation 3, a 32 inch LCD television in my bedroom, I have 46 PlayStation 3 games, I am on a total of 497 trophies and I have two sixaxis and two DualShock 3 controllers. What more could I ask for.

Then the PlayStation 3 was updated to 2.60, which gamers referred to it as the non gaming firmware update. It doesn’t matter what I get in an update as long as it doesn’t improve the playback quality of some PlayStation 3 and PlayStation format software. The reason why is because Sony doesn’t even tell us what games got updated. The photo gallery is a nice edition to the XMB menu as it makes it a lot easier to organize our photos. And yet people still complain about what the PlayStation 3 needs, and if any of you people noticed the updates are free so you should be happy with what Sony has to offer.

The PlayStation 3 is fine where it is but if Sony wants to add some free applications to it I don’t see why they shouldn’t do it. Some gamers should just accept the fact that we get these updates free of charge some good and some bad but at least Sony is updating their console with brand new content every couple of weeks or even months in that matter. At least they’re trying their hardest to give as a good reason to why we bought a PlayStation 3 instead of the Xbox 360 or a Wii. I have heard that the 3.0 firmware update for the PlayStation 3 should be a pretty big update and many people are claiming it will match or even surpass the Xbox 360’s online playing. Let’s just hope that Sony knows what they are doing and the PlayStation 3 will rise to the top this year.

Stop Complaining About Resident Evil’s Control System

I’m sure many of you Resident Evil fans visited the PlayStation store this morning and downloaded the Resident Evil 5 demo. Well I sure did and I never had so much fun playing online with my friends. I must admit Resident Evil 5 is pretty hard. And I’m also sure some of you took your sweet ass time to go on the Internet and bitch about it. Just like these guys.  Link. The only people who will complain with the control system are those who are not truly Resident Evil fans. Fans of the original series would know that the it wouldn’t let you run and shoot. It builds up the suspense, and it also adds to the games realism. If you had a gun what would you do, would you run and shoot or stand and shoot. People stand still, crouch prone or shoot.

Even though the game is hard and some people might not like the control system but something tells me that all the people that are hating Resident Evil 5 never played Resident Evil 4 or were never fans of it in the first place. The game is  classed as a survival horror so what kind of survival horror would it be without a bit of a challenge.
